Art/Music Professional Semminars

In cooperation with the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education (NYSCAME) and the newly-formed Art Supervisors Association (ASA), the BOCES Arts in Education Program is co-sponsoring a series of professional development workshop for music and art educators.

Workshops take place in the late afternoon at various times throughout the school year and in a variety of locations. Each seminar is hosted by a Nassau County school which assumes responsibility for preparation of space, registration and attendance verification.

Clinicians and topics are suggested by music and art educators who respond to a survey annually and presenters are highly regarded experts in their various fields.

Nassau County school districts pay a membership fee to BOCES, depending upon the size of their music and art faculties. Once paid, this membership fee enables as many teachers from that school district to attend as many workshops as they wish.

Given the new state mandates related to professional development, this program has proven to be an innovative and relevant response to those requirements and a tremendous source of support and assistance to those who participate.
