Program Description
 |
| Music is a powerful tool for any cause. One of the highest causes elevated by music is human freedom. Songs of freedom have appeared at every point in United Stated history, from Native American chants through the American Revolution until today. Robbi K & Friends focus on two pivotal times in American history: Slavery and the Civil Rights Movement. This accapella concert is presented by four dynamic professional singers who use harmonic artistry and poetry to convey a positive message about the American spirit and the quest for freedom.
Students participate enthusiastically while connecting historical dates and events in American history through music and stories. Curriculum connections teach multi-cultural studies and American History. Art forms include music and storytelling, and the online studyguide contains pre/post activities.
Songs of Freedom, can also be booked as a residency or with vocal workshops. All of the performers are Teaching Artists who visit classrooms to make more specific connections to history via music; all based on your school and teacher's needs. Include your school's chorus in the assembly performance! Vocal workshops on accapella singing and harmony can be scheduled prior to the performance, enabling music students to perform part of the assembly along with Robbi K & Friends.
Curriculum connections include multi-cultural studies and American History. Art forms include music, social studies, and storytelling. PLEASE NOTE: elementary and middle school versions available. |
