Keep the current BOCES aid formula and funding

Governor Pataki's Budget Proposal would decrease BOCES aid, which is money paid to school districts that participate in BOCES services. Changes to BOCES aid would mean a $36 million (7%) reduction overall and includes the elimination of aid for administrative services - placing more burden on the local taxpayers. Help sustain the current BOCES aid formula and funding. Here's how:

1) Request a bunch of "Support BOCES" postcards by calling 396-2208.

2) Fill out the postcards and ask friends and family to do the same. Be sure to tell legislators why this issue is important.

Some thoughts to express include:

  • Children need the services provided by BOCES.
  • BOCES services help school districts save money by sharing.
  • BOCES services have helped me (or my child) and I want others to be able to have the same assistance.
  • If the state continues to change aid formulas, local taxpayers will have to shoulder more of the cost of education.

3) Look up your local legislators' contact information by clicking on the "Legislator's Address" button on the menu to the left. Then get those postcards in the mail.

4) Remember, it's important to include your name and address on the postcards.
