Nassau BOCES

2009/10 Agency Goals and Initiatives

The following goals are being crafted within the context of the existing mission and vision statements. We view our initiatives as being reflective of projects that we hope to undertake that will enable us to meet our goals.

Vision Statement: Changing lives and shaping the future

Mission Statement: To partner with all Nassau County school districts in providing leadership and the highest quality educational and support services. We are committed to ensuring a successful, challenging, caring and safe environment that enables students of all ages and abilities to achieve their maximum potential.

Goals:

  • 1. Student Achievement

    • Nassau BOCES students will meet or exceed state standards and/or objectives set for them by their instructional and/or individual educational plans.
    • Nassau BOCES will offer an array of services that will support our partner school districts’ students and other learners in developing their potential.

  • 2. Internal Staff

    • Our staff will consistently report high levels of satisfaction within a work environment that motivates, challenges and encourages them to achieve their personal best.

  • 3. Program-Based Planning

    • All Nassau BOCES programs and services will consistently achieve significant levels of success as measured by program-specific performance indicators

  • 4. Customer Service and Relations

    • Our component districts and other constituents (including internal departments) will report that our programs, services, communications and fiscal management are consistent with their expectations of excellence.

Initiatives:

At the heart of our strategic plan, agency-wide initiatives express what we collectively expect to achieve. As we move forward, they will guide us in determining, measuring and reporting on department-level activities that support these efforts.

  • 1. Building Capacity
    •  We recruit and retain quality employees that enable us to maintain and increase our agency’s capacity.
    •  We support agency success through professional development, performance evaluation and cross-training that develops and leverages the strengths of our employees.
    •  We collaborate on cost-effective, technology-driven solutions and operational practices that enable us to better meet our customers’ needs.
    •  We utilize planning, management and evaluation processes that assure our agency has the capacity to achieve its goals, and provide the leadership and services requested by our component districts and other partners.

  • 2. Strengthen Decision-Making and Planning
    • Research, data and best-practice models will be used for decision-making, planning and evaluation throughout the agency.

  • 3. Facilities
    • We provide safe, comfortable and appropriate learning and work environments for all students and staff. We continue to evaluate our programmatic needs to assure that facilities meet those needs. We revise and implement the recommendations of the Nassau BOCES Facilities Master and Rebuilding Schools to Uphold Education (RESCUE) Plans. The agency will seek to purchase facilities instead of leasing them where appropriate.

  • 4. Student Achievement and Engagement
    • We focus on successful educational outcomes for all students in Nassau BOCES programs. We strive to successfully engage all students using 21st century strategies and best practices that will maximize achievement and potential.

  • 5. Building Relationships with Stakeholders
    • Utilizing effective communication, we create an organizational culture that is committed to customer service including customized access to existing and emerging programs and services.
