In the MCS Spotlight:
Freeport UFSD
SMARTBoards K-12
Freeport Schools recently purchased 16 SMARTBoards to enhance instruction and student learning. In line with
NC LB
goals for integrating technology into the curriculum to promote
collaboration and interaction, the SMARTBoards were distributed to every scho ol
in Freeport from the Pre-K center to the High
School. Each teacher was offered a minimum of one-hour
professional development on the many ways SMARTBoard
technology could be incorporated
into student research, skill building, presentations, and collaborative projects.
Most teachers attended two hours of training in order to have hands on practice using the SMARTBoard.
Once the district Staff Developer completed initial training with
teachers in each building, Freeport scheduled Model Schools professional
development days with Nassau BOCES Staff Developers to provide in-class
support for teachers implementing SMARTBoard lessons. This in-class support
has been key in the seamless rollout of SMARTBoard technology in Freeport.
The technology has found its way into all content areas and learning
spaces and is in high demand. The usefulness of this technology in meeting NCLB goals has prompted the purchase of additional units for the district.
