Model Schools Highlights

We're hard at work for Nassau County schools
In these difficult financial times, with fiscal transparency imperative in all public institutions, Nassau BOCES is committed to saving school districts money. To that end, Model Schools is continually working to procure funds for a number of educational initiatives. We have been instrumental in obtaining the following grants for Nassau County schools:

Teaching American History
This partnership between Nassau BOCES and the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University brings 130 local middle and high school history teachers together with nationally renowned historians. Through informative lecture series and follow-up professional development sessions, these educators will increase their content knowledge to better support instruction.

Title II D: Finding Their Voices Through Multimedia Learning
A collaborative effort between Eastern Suffolk, Western Suffolk, and Nassau BOCES providing a research-based initiative in partnership with eleven high-needs school districts to increase the performance of English language learners (ELL students) in core academic areas through effective use of media and technology in grades five through eight.

Learning Technology Grant
This grant provides vital support for educators teaching math to middle-level English language learners. Through the grant, professional developers work with teachers and students in the classroom using technology tools, such as SMART boards and Geometer’s sketchpads. Teachers then use the assessment data gathered to increase student achievement.
