In the summer of 2002, Nassau BOCES, in partnership the New York Institute of Technology's Educational Enterprise Zone, the New York State Teacher Centers , the Enterprise Educational Zone, MarcoPolo, and the George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF), was awarded a New York State Virtual Learning Space (NYSVLS) Web Content Development Grant. In a Statewide collaborative effort with other grantees, our project was used to transform the process of classroom teaching and leaning. The professional online resources in our project are designed to assist students in achieving higher academic performance and attaining knowledge and skills required in the 21st century and global economy.
Our resources also include hundreds of MarcoPolo lessons aligned to the New York State standards, drilled down to key ideas and performance indicators. In addition, two sets of standards, one for Online Learning and one for Videoconferencing, were created.
We look to continue our growth by expanding our list of quality courses and a collection of resources for teachers. Even though our grant funding ended in January 2004, our partnership has continued to produce a high standard of professional development through our ever-expanding list of facilitated and self-paced courses as well as an extensive video gallery through GLEF.
