Awards program draws 89 nominees from
more than 30 school districts
This year, the Nassau BOCES "Education Partner"
awards program received 89 nominations representing people from all
walks of life. During the nominating period, more than 1,500 people
visited the Nassau BOCES Web site. Winners will be announced in January
2009, and will be honored at a gala event sponsored by the Nassau BOCES
Educational Foundation on Thursday, May 7 at the Crest Hollow Country
Club.
Dubbed the “Oscars” for education, the Nassau BOCES
“Education Partner” award recognizes those whose impact on public
education can be measured in a very tangible way. Criteria for
nominating outstanding candidates includes a paragraph (up to 250 words)
on why this person deserves the award and three specific examples of how
the nominee personifies the spirit of education partnerships, and/or has
demonstrated significant, measurable impact on public education.
Judges for the awards comprise a committee of
distinguished educator and community leaders. Judges score nominations
solely on the measurable strength of the nominee’s impact on public
education as demonstrated in the specific examples submitted. Each of
the four sections of the nomination form is eligible for up to 25 points
with 100 total possible points for any nomination.
So it makes sense as a nominator to present
evidence of the person’s “influence” when completing the nomination
form. Think reach, think impact and provide strong information
(numbers, percentages, dollars or other stats) about the nominee’s
activities/successes. When writing the essay summarizing the candidate’s
accomplishments, feel free to use anecdotes, examples and other details
that will make the nominee standout from all the others. We hope these
tips prove helpful!
