What Teachers Say About Our Programs....

Our naturalists distribute evaluations after every program. Input from teachers helps us to grow and fine-tune our programs. We love to get feedback...especially like the comments below

Brookville, grade 5...
teacher headshot 10 I enjoyed watching the students work together and overcome their differences. I liked how the program challenged them to use their brains and to step “out of the box” to think of solutions. The entire program met our goals. We wanted the children to learn to work as a team and each activity focused on this.

Brookville, grade 5... (from a parent chaperone)
teacher headshot 9 I was extremely impressed with how the naturalist was able to motivate 14 ten-year olds that he never met before. This group was from all different classes from our building. He got them all to communicate, cooperate and trust each other. Despite the downpour of rain that day, he made it fun for them and made sure they were safe at all times. Truly Impressive! (It was a great experience for me as well!)

This was a special education group with both mental and physical challenges. The naturalist was fabulous and flexible enough to have everyone enjoying the experience fully. She was able to adapt all of the activities in an instant to meet the needs of our special group. Thanks you- we will back!

Brookville, grade 8...teacher headshot 7
The Program was excellent!  Students were accompanied by their parents, making it somewhat unusual.  The naturalist was really able to highlight issues between students and parents.  It did everything I hoped the program would do.  I’d like to do it again!

The challenge course mirrors many of the themes which we try to impart to our students throughout the year: cooperation, trust, team-spirit, empathy, communication, etc. The naturalists do a great job, too of debriefing each group at the end of each activity and for the entire day and are always concerned with what was learned.

Brookville, grade 5
teacher headshot 8 The naturalist was an excellent, kind and organized guide, very willing to answer any questions and encourage children to try every activity and work as a team.  She complimented often and had a great sense of humor.  I only hope she is my class’ guide every time we come to Project Adventure.  P.S.  How did you learn all 15 names in 10 minutes?  Thanks.

Brookville, Grades 6, 7, 8
teacher headshot 4 The ability of the naturalist to build a solid rapport with the youth and staff was outstanding. Thank you for taking time to understand the needs of the students. Her ability to engage the youth and keep their interest was something that was great to see. Our students need more people like the naturalists in their lives. Thank you for a great time

Brookville, Grade 2 (from a Parent Chaperone!)
teacher headshot 2 As a class Mom on this trip, I can’t believe how wonderful this guide was. She has such patience with this restless group ( 7 & 8  yr olds). She was actually the same guide my daughter had 2 years ago! We remember everything she taught us then. She is outstanding and has excellent teaching skills!

Brookville, gr. 6
teacher headshot 3 The naturalist did a great job! I especially noticed how she allowed students to go through the process of trial and error and develop strategy with each activity. The post discussions were important and she was very complimentary of the students’ feedback and accomplishments.

Brookville, gr. 4
teacher headshot 1 Excellent trip & excellent staff! Very organized! Our kids had a very good time and learned a lot! The naturalists were wonderful.- even lunch was a learning experience about recyling!

Caumsett., Grade 9

teacher headshot 11 The naturalist was fantastic! This is the second time I have worked with him and I have been impressed both times. We went out on a rainy cold day and my kids still had a great time. He has a depth of knowledge and an awesome teaching style. A number of my kids said he was a "cool guy" and for them to say that about anyone ...is a huge compliment.·

Caumsett, Grade 3
teacher headshot 2 I have been on many field trips in my 19 yrs of teaching and never have I enjoyed a trip as much as this one. The children couldn't stop talking about all they learned. I can't wait until next year. This definitely was a highlight of a trip.

Caumsett, Special Education classteacher headshot 12
The naturalist was able to captivate the staf and students' attention. Her sense of humor, energy, and information helped keep our interest. She kept safgety of the group in mind and was able to adjust the program to the academic levels of the students.

Caumsett, Grade 5
teacher headshot 1 The naturalist's warm, patient rapport with the children was established early on and maintained throughout the day. We were a challenging group, comprised of various behavioral issues and maturity levels. She skillfully managed the group with remarkable expertise. The “circle-up” discussions and briefing sessions following each activity were guided through open-ended, thought provoking questioning. A masterful job! Many thanks for a great day.

Caumsett, Girl Scout troopteacher headshot 11
The naturalist was wonderful with the girls. She was well-prepared and eager to answer the girls' questions. Caumsett is one of my favorite places on Long Island and I was delighted to share it with our girls.

Properties Lab, grade 4
teacher headshot 2 Great job! This program provides a great overview for the manipulative portion of the science exam

South Shore Beach Program, Grade Kteacher headshot 10
The program was enjoyed by all. The naturalist was motivating and knowledgeable. She generated excitement from my students as they learned. This will carry over into the classroom thanks you very much for the interesting program.

Jones Beach Program, Grade 5
teacher headshot 8 I only have wonderful things to say about this field trip, The naturalist was extremely prepared and enthusiastic about the information she imparted to the kids. In response, they were likewise excited about their findings and facts about our LI environment. We had a ball!

Programs for Adult Groups:
teacher headshot 4 It was a very healthy day for us. It is always beneficial to be the “student” and to experience the activities we ask our students to participate in.

My group of social workers had a wonderful, fun experienceteacher headshot 12 . Atmosphere and exercises allowed staff members to go beyond their comfort level and improve on communication skills. The naturalist had a great sense of the staff by the end of the day and added to our experience.

Adelphi University, College RAs
teacher headshot 6 The 3 naturalists did a great job and our students loved the experience! They created a wonderful atmosphere in which our students were challenged, but not pressured, and they were able to thrive in this setting. Some of the students even left this experience with the desire to become naturalists themselves. Our experiences at the Brookville site have always been excellent, but this trip may have been the best yet, Thank you!

Here is a great Power Point that Hicksville students created about the solo walk they took while staying overnight at Caumsett.
