What is

thelearningnet?

The Learning Net is a brand-new educational cooperative that supports the distribution of content using real science, field activities, standards alignment, professional development, and engagement with practicing scientists.

The Learning Net "shops" for the best curriculum resources on behalf of its member organizations. In turn, Learning Net members bundle these resources with local training and community science--and create outstanding experiences for children.

Nassau BOCES has been working with 13 other member organizations from around the country and Mexico to bring the benefits of this consortium to our local districts. Register today to join our community on National Geographic's EdNet site.

Resources and Curricula Programs for 2008-09 include:

National Geographic supports the Learning Net  through administrative support, development of an EdNet online community for partner organizations' members and the development of an overlying theme of "Signs of a Changing Planet" to help incorporate other curricular programs.

Immersion Learning brings scientific knowledge and adds the fun and excitement of exploring places through engaging curricula activities and an annual live expedition. The theme for
2009-10 will be Arctic Mammals and wlll also tie in beautifully to our climate change topic, too.

Great explorers plus great events are used to inspire and motivate students to learn science. The theme for 2009-10  is Operation: Infinite Potential, an energy curriculum unit that will include print curriculum, video, online games, labs and field work and and interactive website:  the JASON Mission Center. See the preview site for more

Other Resources for Signs of a Changing Planet include a Summer Institute for Educators in 2010 and a website on National Geographic's EdNet site for the Learning Net!. We'll be posting lots of resources there to help you navigate through this rich topic. Our Fall JASON and Immersion Presents trainings will include alignments to climate change activities, too.

Resources for the Learning Net can be found here!
