  • JASON Guest Speaker Day!
    On Friday, November 19, 2004, we had three speakers come and talk about Disappearing Wetlands. See a copy of the day's agenda. Our speakers have been generous in allowing us to post their Power point presentations:

    - What's a Tidal Wetland? Karen Chytalo, from the
    Bureau of Marine Resources, NYSDEC presented on how wetlands are mapped and regulated and the new evidence for loss of wetlands for our regions of Long Island, NYC and the Hudson River.
    PowerPoint presentation: Tidal Wetlands: What are They? Where are They and Are they Changing?
    Movie: Specialized dredge, placing sediments on Big Egg marsh, Jamaica Bay, to restore lost low marsh tidal wetlands.

    Notes from the Field: Kristin Goodrich, former student argo and this year's video host reflected on her time in Louisiana. The PowerPoint is a collection of her photos from her experience.

    - Wetlands Wrap-up - Linking Louisiana and Long Island:  Bill Monahan, BOCES Program Specialist and site director at Caumsett State Historic Park, compared the different wetland habitats on Long Island with those found in Louisiana.  Long Island is an exciting place, too!
