Program of Alternative Comprehensive Education (P.A.C.E.)

P.A.C.E. is a drop out prevention program for challenged or failing high school students who will benefit from an alternative educational setting. Within the rural surroundings of the Nassau BOCES Outdoor Education Center at Brookville, these at-risk students receive support, counseling and guidance in developing better self-esteem, improving their academic performance and planning for their future. The program offers small class sizes and a highly structured environment to foster academic success, with an emphasis on credit recovery. Most P.A.C.E. students complete New York State high school graduation requirements for a Regents diploma and pursue a post secondary education. Upon completion of New York State Education requirements, the home district awards the high school diploma based on the recommendation of the Nassau BOCES administration.

P.A.C.E. students that have earned significant high school credits and have demonstrated personal growth are recommended to attend the Nassau BOCES Barry Tech career and technical education center where they earn a certification in a trade or learn a competitive skill for future employment. In addition, P.A.C.E. students that show an interest in the arts are encouraged to apply to the Long Island High School for the Arts where they can pursue their artistic goals.

For students that require services beyond those provided at the Brookville setting, P.A.C.E. has partnered with the Nassau BOCES Department of Special Education. In these cases, P.A.C.E. places students in other appropriate educational options in Nassau County, including the Alternative Learning Program (ALP), Nassau Education and Treatment (NET), Career Preparatory High School (CPHS) or the recently added Eagle Avenue Middle School.

Application to P.A.C.E. requires completing the documents listed below. Specific sections are required to be completed by the student, by district representatives, the supporting guidance counselor and by parents of the student. Once reviewed by the P.A.C.E. screening committee, an interview is mandatory. Upon acceptance, transportation will be established and the student can begin.
