Where are we
going for 2009-10?
Operation: Infinite
Potential

What do the furnace in the center of a star, the pulse of
electricity down a transmission line and the chemical
reactions inside an organism have in common? Energy!
Join
The JASON Project’s next operation where we will explore energy and the
vital activities that it makes possible. See how light, heat, sound,
chemical reactions and movement continually transform everything around
us. Explore the past, current and future challenges of energy
generation, storage and consumption – and investigate and analyze
emerging technologies designed to meet the planet’s increasing energy
needs.
Operation:
Infinite Potential: Students will strengthen their
critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with science content
directly aligned to national and state standards.
Working alongside leading scientists, students explore past, current and
future challenges of energy generation, storage, and consumption.
Through research articles, labs, field assignments, videos, computer
games and other multimedia, they investigate and analyze emerging
technologies designed to meet the needs of an energy-hungry planet.
Through their Missions, students will:
- Determine whether an earthquake's energy could
transform into a Tsunami
- Develop a plan for providing energy to an area
struck by natural disaster
- Propose a plan to responsibly use 400 years of
stored coal
- Address a large-scale power outage and work to
get power restored
- Design an energy efficient module that will
allow humans to live in outer space.

National
Geographic Programs and
thelearningnet
Both JASON
and the Learning Net fall under NGS's "umbrella", and now, Nassau BOCES has even more
programming options to offer! The
Learning Net, is an educational cooperative
that supports the distribution of content using real science, field
activities, standards alignment, professional development, and
engagement with practicing scientists.
The Learning Net's focus for 2008- 2011 is "Signs of a Changing
Planet" and serves as an overlying theme for JASON,
National Geographic and Immersion Presents curricula. This climate
change theme aligns perfectly with JASON's "energy-charged"
curriculum . And, our JASON districts will have a "front
row seat" in all development plans with National Geographic.
