Where are we going for the 2006-07 School Year?

Monster Storms - the pilot version

satellite image of a hurricaneThis year marks a huge transition for JASON! While undergoing a huge format change for its award winning curriculum and online site, JASON teachers and students can continue to explore via a pilot version of its newest curriculum, Monster Storms. The content includes:

  • Hurricanes, tornadoes, thunderstorms...
  • Storm formation
  • Forecasting, warnings and preparedness
  • Extreme weather impact and human interaction
  • Climate and global monitoring
  • The technologies used to track storms

...and more!

The JASON Student Event!

Because of JASON's "transition year", there will be no live broadcast this year. However, in cooperation with the Cradle of Aviation Museum, JASON students will be able to see the newest IMAX release, Hurricane on the Bayou - a perfect alignment to this year's Monster Storms curriculum. Several dates run from Monday January 29, through February 5, 2007. In addition, students will be able to interact with our BOCES naturalists following the movie at various stations throughout the vast lobby.

Teachers...please note that a wonderful Teacher's Guide is available as preparation for this experience.

Immersion Presents

JASON teachers will also have the opportunity to follow more of Dr. Robert Ballard's exploration through the Immersion Presents expeditions. This year's newest journeys take us "virtually" to Greece for the Ancient Eruptions expedition and also gives us the means to study Dolphin Communication with researcher Dr. Kathleen Dudzinski. In addition, participating teachers will have access to past expeditions: Titanic, Lost City, and the Black Sea. The video archives are maintained on Immersion's website.  Click here for more information on Immersion.
