Staying Current:

  • Tune in on Friday, January 17 at 9pm to PBS Channel 13 for NOW with Bill Moyers regarding Copyright Law and Information Access in "Tollbooths on the Digital Highway"
  • New Century Libraries - An important statewide funding initiative currently before the Legislature and the Governor that would provide all New Yorkers with access to 21st century library services. 
  • New York State Regulations of the Commissioner of Education pertaining to Libraries - Information regarding School Media Certification, employment of School Media Specialists, and regulations regarding school libraries.
  • No Child Left Behind - In January 2002, the federal        No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act was signed into law by President Bush.
  • Improving Literacy through School Libraries - The Improving Literacy through School Libraries (LSL) program promotes comprehensive local strategies to improve student achievement by improving school library services and resources. The program provides competitive one-year grants to districts in which 20 percent of the students are from families with incomes below the poverty line.
  • Current Awareness - Resources of interest to Web managers and those who wish to search electronic technology journals.
  • ICONnect - An initiative of the American Association of School Librarians. Includes online tutorials so that school librarians can learn the skills necessary to navigate the Internet. Includes a link to KidsConnect, a help and referral service designed to help students in K -12 use Internet information effectively.

  • Seek Help - Tips for using popular search tools.
