Massapequa voters say 'yes' to sale of Carman Road School

By a vote of 707 to 99, Massapequa School District residents approved an October 18 referendum to sell the Carman Road School, which Nassau BOCES has rented for nearly 40 years.

Because the vote passed, Nassau BOCES will be able to hold its own countywide referendum in February to purchase the school. All Nassau County voters will be eligible to participate in the Nassau BOCES referendum. In recent years, Nassau BOCES has been working to minimize costs passed on local school districts by pursuing a strategy of owning rather than renting facilities.

The Carman Road School provides comprehensive educational services for students with multiple physical and developmental disabilities, aged 5 to 21. Read more about the school at
