Gang Awareness
Recognizing the urgent need of school administrators,
teachers and others who work with young people to cope with the impact of
gangs on school safety, Nassau BOCES has partnered with a number of
agencies to run ongoing seminars focusing on “Gang Awareness.” The
seminars introduce educators to the signs and symbols of gangs among young
people, and the strategies for preventing and dealing with gang presence
in the schools. The seminars are sponsored by the Safe & Supportive
Schools Consortium, which brings representatives of various police
departments, youth boards, student support services, and New York State
agencies of children and families.
