Veteran educator Heather Soffer has recently taken the helm as Principal of Nassau BOCES Robert Williams School. She comes to the role following successful tenure as assistant principal of two Nassau BOCES special education schools. As principal, Ms. Soffer will draw on 30 years of experience as a teacher and leader in special education.
Anastasia Kokonis, Program Coordinator for Nassau BOCES Health and Allied Services, recently earned the 2021 Exemplary Practice Guidance Award from the Nassau Counselors’ Association (NCA). Each year, the NCA recognizes a counselor who makes “outstanding contributions to our profession and the students of Nassau County.”
In compliance with the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) regulation titled Lead Testing in School Drinking Water (10 NYCRR Subpart 67- 4), we recently performed an updated inventory of all water outlets in the agency and another round of sampling of all applicable water outlets.
Education Services Executive Director, George Duffy, along with Board President Susan Bergtraum, presented the awards to the honorees during a brief ceremony prior to the July 8, 2021 board meeting. Mr. Duffy also presented our own Dr. Robert Dillon, District Superintendent with the National School Development Council Cooperative Leadership Award.
Nassau BOCES’ 2021-22 Administrative Operations Budget once again received decisive support, with 53 of the 56 Nassau County boards of education approving the budget. In addition, the three incumbents were returned to the Nassau BOCES Board -- Susan Bergtraum, Martin Kaye and Michael Weinick.
