Visit Barry Tech

  • If your son or daughter is interested in exploring a career or technical field that is not taught in your home high school, you'll want to know about the Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Education Center. It is part of the public education system in Nassau County and is run by Nassau BOCES.

The newly renovated, state-of-the-art center enrolls more than 1,100 students from schools throughout Nassau County. Every day, for half a day, these students attend Barry Tech to study subjects as diverse as video production, culinary arts, computers, hvac/plumbing, carpentry, auto repair, police science, cosmetology, nursing and dental assisting, fashion and aviation, among others.

Courses are taught by professionals who teach in the classroom what they practice in the work world. At the end of the students' two-year program, they receive a certificate which certifies that they are qualified to do the work for which they have been trained. Our students go on to part-time and full-time jobs and in most cases they go to college, often in their own specialty, with one leg up because of the education they received at Barry Tech.

You may visit  Barry Tech by attending a "Taste of Tech" day. This is an opportunity for interested students and their families to explore Barry Tech’s programs and facility. For more information, please call the Barry Tech Guidance Office (516-622-6812/6814) and contact your school district guidance counselor. We would welcome the chance to show you and your child what Barry Tech has to offer!
