    Imagine a gym-floor sized map of Long Island coming to your school!

    This Map, created and designed through a grant from the Nassau BOCES Foundation for Education and fashioned after National Geographic’s Giant Maps program is available for school-based programs throughout the school year. The LI Map comes with hands-on (and "feet-on") activities and two of our naturalists to facilitate the program
      
    What Does the Program Look Like?

    Sample School Schedule 

    • 9:00 – 9:40 Class A
    • 9:50 – 10:30 Class B
    • 10:40 – 11:20 Class C
    • 30 minute break
    • 11:50 – 12:30 Class D
    • 12:40 – 1:20 Class E


    Content is grade level appropriate and teachers can choose from concepts such as: 

    • How Long Island was formed
    • Towns, counties, and cities of Long Island
    • Cardinal directions
    • Lighthouses
    • Native Americans, place names
    • Urban, suburban and rural areas; population density
    • Famous places and national sites
