Robert “B.A.” Schoen
Resident of Baldwin UFSD
Robert "B.A." Schoen of Baldwin was first elected to the Nassau BOCES Board in August 2009.
In January 2016, he was elected as the Area 11 Director for the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA).
Mr. Schoen began his service as a Trustee on the Board of the Baldwin UFSD in 1996 after years of serving the community where he grew up in many other roles. He can be described as an "Activist" school Trustee. He lobbies on behalf of Public Education in Albany and Washington, DC and represents Nassau BOCES at the Long Island Association as well as Reform Educational Finance Inequities Today (REFIT). So far, he has served three terms as President of that organization.
He has received numerous honors, including the New York United Teachers "Friend of Education" and the Nassau Suffolk School Boards Association "Distinguished Service" awards. The Baldwin school district honored him with a Spring Celebration at his alma mater.
Involved with amateur athletics all his life, “B.A.” was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for “Lifetime Service to Wrestling”. He is still an active Wrestling referee and has presented workshops on athletics and their role in Public Education to school board groups.
Mr. Schoen earned his bachelor's degree from Moorhead State College (Minnesota State University Moorhead MSUM). He and his wife, Ann, reared four children and their 10 grandchildren are their principal occupation and pleasure.
