STEM & STEAM Conferences for Kids

  • Conference for Kids for 2020 will focus on STEAM!

Students in grades 4-6 become "STEAMologists" for the day as they explore science, technology, engineering and math content (and add the "A" for the arts!) during various workshops. The structure of day includes two, hour-long workshops and rotation through a related film in the Dome Theater with a "Q & A" interpretative session to follow.

    Details are as follows:
DATE:      Monday, January 13, 2020  AND Monday, February 10, 2020

NOTE: this year we are using one form for both dates. Please indicate your preference as a first and second choice or indicate if you can only participate on a specific date.

    Examples of Student Workshops:

    Aeronautics     AERONAUTICS
What does it take to fly? Explore the nature of and requirements for flight. Find out about adhesion, air pressure, airfoil, shapes, life, downwash, flaps and slats. How do different methods of propulsion such as propellers, jet engines and rockets function?.

    of MOSAICS

Mosaic is the art of creating images with stone, glass or other materials. Learn about this beautiful art form while creating your own mosaic.

fingerprinting Fingerprints   FASCINATING FINGERPRINTS  Learn how to read, count, develop, compare and lift fingerprints. Solve crimes using a fingerprint magna brush and powder. Lift and examine your own fingerprints.
Marine Archeology   MARINE ARCHEOLOGY Learn from a diver with over 25 years experience, how to interpret they story that the artifacts of shipwrecks tell. In addition to examining preserved artifacts from under the sea, learn about the physics of pressure and density with a fun hands-on activity and take home a special creation.
Robots   ROBOTS, ROCKETS & MARS ROVERS  Explore and learn how different types of robots can help us. Examples include an artificial robotic hand, a model of the Mars Rover and other intelligent robots.
     Solar panels in light bulb

A demonstration of nuclear fusion, thermodynamics, incidence, conduction, convection, 3 radiation demos, and PV panels powering robots via an umbilical. Includes a brief history of solar energy, and if time, Q & A session will follow.

Featured Film for STEAM Conferences 2019: DREAM BIG

    Poster for Dream Big

Narrated by Academy Award  winner Jeff Bridges, Dream Big: Engineering Our World will transform how we think about engineering. From the Great Wall of China and the world's tallest buildings to underwater robots, solar cars and smart, sustainable cities, Dream Big celebrates the human ingenuity behind engineering marvels big and small, and reveals the heart that drives engineers to create better lives for people around the world.
