Library Automation and Resource Sharing Service

  • The Nassau BOCES Library Automation and Resource Sharing Service (LARSS) includes two components: implementing and maintaining library automation systems [CoSer: 533.010], and coordinating purchasing and access to online databases [CoSer: 533.020]. 

     
    The LARSS automation staff provides ongoing help-desk support of the automation software from Follett, including on-site visits as appropriate. User group meetings for school librarians focus on the unique features of the automation software and the curriculum connection. In addition to special workshops for support staff, there are also workshops for school librarians new to an existing automated site. Renewal of the automation service agreement for updates is included.

    Follett User Meetings - We are currently only running morning sessions.  We will cover updates and features as well as curriculum content.

    For new automation projects, help is available in developing a plan for each initiative. There is online consulting to prepare the school library collection for the conversion of paper records to the MARC (Machine Readable Catalog) records. School Librarians receive two full days of training on the specifics of circulation, cataloging, reports and inventory for themselves and support staff. Installation of the automation software, the MARC record database and patron information are included for participants.
