    Karen Siris,Ed.D., an American educator, is a retired former principal of the Walter S. Boardman Elementary School in Oceanside, NY, an adjunct professor at Adelphi University and a nationally recognized expert on bullying prevention.  She co-authored a children's book,  "Stand Up,"  that acquaints children with the perniciousness of bullying.  Her publication guides  "bystanding" children to stop the unkindness by "standing up" in defense of their peers.  In addition, she is the author of various other publications, most of which center on effective bullying prevention and intervention.  Dr. Siris presents workshops to teachers, administrators and concerned parents across the country about bullying prevention and intervention. 
     
    Following New York's 2012 enactment of the "Dignity for All Students Act," Dr. Siris was appointed to represent the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS) on the New York State Task force for implementation of the law.  She now serves on the New York State Safe Schools Task Force.  Dr. Siris was awarded her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Hofstra University. Her doctoral thesis, "Using Action Research to Alleviate Bullying,"received the H. Alan Robinson Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award.
