    February 2016 Meeting

Pamela Christensen will open this month’s meeting with a discussion focusing on what Nassau BOCES is prepared to do to expand the BoTIE Network to accommodate ever increasing Internet requirements and demands.  We would like to get your read on what the best next steps are to meet the districts’ needs for Internet.

Now that the Agg Buy has gone away there are many questions regarding the New State IT Contract. As a follow-up to our December webinar with OGS Procurement Services, Trish will share the latest information coming from NYSED and how this will impact district purchases and Nassau BOCES project timelines.

This month’s Mobile Device Snapshot will feature Uniondale UFSD. This year the Uniondale School district fully adopted Discovery Educations' Social Studies Techbook for middle school grades 6-8 in lieu of a traditional textbook.  This presentation will feature the decision-making process for the adoption, the roll-out of the product including the piloting and professional development support for classroom teachers, and the technological support within the district.

Siteimprove is an all-in-one web governance suite that features a variety of useful tools.

    • Quality Assurance: checks for misspellings, broken links, or inconsistencies on your website, and shows you exactly where errors occur.
    • Accessibility: Is your website ADA compliant? Siteimprove identifies accessibility issues and explains how to fix them.
    • Response: 24/7 monitoring and automated reporting. Set up email/SMS alerts to ensure the fastest response if something goes wrong with your site.

Now available for purchase through Nassau BOCES!

    Pre-Meeting Session (12:00 – 1:00 p.m.)

    Virtual Meeting Rooms (VMR)

Many districts have videoconference equipment (Polycom, Tandberg, Cisco) that has aged out.  Repairing or replacing the equipment can be costly.  In the past year, 12 Nassau County school districts have switched from using high-end videoconference equipment to using low-cost Virtual Meeting Rooms (VMR).  VMRs provide web-based videoconference connections in a high-quality, reliable and easy-to-use format.  In this session you will learn what a VMR is and how it can benefit your district.
