• Every Vote Counts

Have you or one of your students ever wondered;  "Does my vote really make a difference? It’s only one vote."

Nassau BOCES and the Center for Online Learning has developed a new mini course offered at three grade band levels- 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 to support students' understanding of the election process and to get to know this year's presidential candidates. These units contain everything you need to make this election come alive for your students and is aligned with state social studies standards, as well as new framework regents exams (9-12 version).

The Every Vote Counts course is housed in the Learning Management System (LMS) Agilix Buzz. Teachers will be given full editing rights to the course to edit/modify or enhance the content to meet the needs of their students.

    Activities include:

    • Discussion threads
    • Checks for understanding
    • Formative assessments
    • Complete activities to prepare students to better understand the election process and to make informed decisions through his/her individual vote
    • Voting in a "mock election"

Your students will be able to:

    • Discuss voting requirements and responsibilities
    • Learn about the role of the president
    • Get to know the candidates and the issues

This, of all elections, is one of the most unique and important in American history.  The right to vote is a privilege that the country’s founding fathers created to be a cornerstone of the United States Constitution.   Every citizen has an equal voice in electing candidates in all areas of government.  Let's support our students to understand that every vote counts!
