    November 2016 Meeting

This month’s Learning Management System Snapshot will put the spotlight on the Nassau BOCES Center for Online Learning’s (COL) utilization of Buzz (formerly BrainHoney). Elisa Barilla and partners will provide an overview of the system along with its extensive data suite. This presentation will also include an introductory overview of the complete virtual learning suite available to districts through the COL including district-specific Buzz platforms that include content as well as a district-specific SNAP media server.

The Nassau County Police Department recently offered an Alert and Domain Awareness System (NCPD ADAS) to all Nassau County public school districts. The system will be integrated to the Police Department’s Communications Bureau. Lee Mandel, President of Intralogic Solutions whose company developed the system, will join us to present an overview and discuss the technical information districts will need to provide for implementation.

As technologies improve and price points drop, schools are increasingly taking a closer look at interactive monitors to replace aging whiteboards. There are a proliferation of products currently on the market and we’ve invited 11 of them to join us for a Touch Screen Monitor Showcase for you to assess firsthand. We will be joined by the following manufacturers: Boxlight, Dell, InFocus, NEC, Newline, Promethean, Qomo, Samsung, Sharp, Tatung, Viewsonic. Links to the specific product to be demonstrated can be found on the November Meeting page. You may meet with them both during the pre-session and/or the regular meeting. Feel free to invite interested colleagues from your district.

    Pre-Meeting Sessions (12:00 – 1:00)
    Computer Based Testing Bandwidth Needs

With the move toward Computer Based Testing periodically driving Internet bandwidth needs above district steady state requirements, we invite you to join us for a discussion of your anticipated bandwidth requirements during these high demand periods.  Your participation and input will help Nassau BOCES determine how we may be able to leverage the BoTIE Internet service to help you meet those needs.
