Work-Based Learning
Work-based Learning is the "umbrella" term used to identify activities which collaboratively engage employers and school districts in providing structured learning experiences for students in the work environment. These experiences focus on helping students to develop broad, transferable skills for post-secondary education and the workplace.
Districts employ a certified Work-based Learning (WBL) coordinator who provides students with real-life work experiences where they can apply academic and technical skills and develop their employability skills. The WBL coordinator is typically split between two districts and works 2-days in each district. They have an opportunity to work with a variety of students including students who are pursuing a CDOS credential or who are in need of employment. The WBL coordinator has established many connections in the community in which to "place" students for job shadowing or internship experiences. Many of those experiences turn in to actual paid employment.
