This month’s STEM Spotlight expands the scope a bit to include STEAM and Makerspace initiatives and programs, many of which taking place in our schools’ Library Media Centers. Though wonderful and exciting, inherent with this rapid growth are the challenges of ownership and management, roles and responsibilities, and of course budget lines. To help us sort through it all we will be joined by Ed Kemnitzer, Director of Technology, Innovation, and Information Services in East Williston, and Donna Rosenblum, Supervisor of the Nassau BOCES School Library System (NBSLS). Ed is this year’s Fred Podolski Leadership Award recipient for his work in Massapequa where he lead the district’s instructional technology department and the K-12 libraries and inspired the renovation of the district’s libraries with the inclusion of its makerspaces.
The Data Privacy & Security Service recently issued an RFP for Penetration Testing and Network Assessment, awarding “pre-qualified” status to eight vendors who met the criteria for delivering these services to school districts. Each of them will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and their services in this showcase format, and then we will move into a breakout session where you can meet with any or all of them at separate tables for additional information. Though only districts subscribing to the DPSS service may utilize the RFP as a procurement vehicle, any district may contract with them through other means. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of what districts can expect from a security assessment and help you prepare in choosing the right level of service.
