About the George Faerber Outstanding Student Awards

Each year, students from each of Nassau BOCES' instructional programs receives the George Farber Outstanding Student Award in recognition of their academic achievements, exemplary qualities and high moral standards.

George Farber

The George Farber Outstanding Student Awards are presented to Nassau BOCES students who have demonstrated passion, perseverance, enthusiasm, outstanding character, scholarship and a willingness to help others as emulated by our former Board President, Mr. George Farber. His passion and drive for improving the lives of students at Nassau BOCES was only surpassed by his love and care for them.

Mr. Farber was the longest-serving board member in the county, serving from 1971 to 2009. He served as District Clerk and Vice President and became President in 1987, the position he held until he died at the age of 87 in 2009. Under his tenure the Long Island High School for the Arts, the Career Preparatory High School and the Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Education Center were created and Nassau BOCES grew to offer more than 130 programs.
