Employment Opportunities

Our Interim Placement Program assists component school districts looking to fill temporary administrator, teaching and pupil-personnel vacancies. We need qualified and experienced retired professionals who are willing to fill interim positions throughout the county. All interim professionals must possess a valid New York State certification as an administrator, teacher or within the area of pupil personnel.

All interims hired through the Interim Placement Program will be employees of the school district in which they work. Where applicable, the interim and school district must apply for a Section 211 waiver.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a student teacher or intern at Nassau BOCES!

The Screening and Approval Process developed by the district for selecting student teachers/interns is a critical link in producing quality teachers/administrators for our schools. We have attempted to focus the Student Teacher/Intern Approval Process on the goal of developing teachers/administrators who have the potential of becoming Nassau BOCES employees.

It is the intent of Nassau BOCES to provide student teachers/interns with a rigorous, authentic and high-quality experience. To that end, we require applicants to be enrolled in an approved college/university education program, with university-provided field supervisors.

Each student teacher/intern applicant must download and complete the Student Teacher/Intern Application. This application must be submitted to the school principal or the executive director of the program no fewer than 90 days before the requested start date.

All student teachers/interns must have valid fingerprint clearance through the New York State Department of Education before beginning their experience. If you have not been fingerprinted, please visit the IdentoGO website and click on New York State on the map, or call 877-472-6915.

Applicants and administrators from your college/university will be notified by Nassau BOCES of the names of those individuals who are selected; school placement will be determined by the district following selection.

Step 1: Application

Individuals seeking employment for classified/non-instructional positions at Nassau BOCES must submit a cover letter indicating the search number and position applied for, a completed application, a resume, and a signed Authority to Release Information form. When we receive the above information and materials, we will place all applications in the active file and consider each candidate for employment.

Step 2: Screening

We at Nassau BOCES review each application to determine if the applicant meets the credential requirements for the designated position. This helps ensure that we find the most suitable candidates for current and anticipated vacancies.

Step 3: Interviews

Once the screening process is complete, we will schedule interviews for applicants who meet our credential requirements and whose qualifications establish them as the best candidates for a particular position. (Note: Candidates may be interviewed by committee.) We verify the references of all finalists prior to a recommendation to the Superintendent.

Step 4: Appointment

Appointment to a position is made after a candidate has been cleared by the Nassau County Civil Service Commission, has accepted an offer, and is contingent upon background clearance by the New York State Department of Education. When an offer of employment is made, a tentative salary placement is determined based on available information from the applicant. An individual is formally employed only after official action of the Nassau BOCES Board upon recommendation of the Superintendent.

Step 5: Orientation

New full-time hires are provided a packet of information regarding medical enrollment, health plans, and other items related to the employee beginning work.
