Hyunjun Chang, a student in the Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement class taught by instructor Allison Varley, took second place in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, GA.

Hyunjun, a junior from the Great Neck UFSD earned the silver medal and earned Skills points in the Criminal Justice competition by completing 6 stations: take a call and put the information received in chronological order; a missing person report where he had to gather information and call it in; a traffic stop with a teenage driver and two friends in the car; and three “What would you do?” scenarios. As part of the competition, he was also interviewed by the Georgia Police Department. He is proficient in the areas listed on his certificate by the criminal justice industry: Bleeding control, CPR, Fingerprinting, First-Aid, Police Reports, Witness Interview, Traffic Control and Investigation and Use of Force Assessment.

The SkillsUSA Championships showcase America’s most highly skilled career and technical education students. It is also one of the largest hands-on workforce development events in the world. Held in conjunction with SkillsUSA’s National Leadership & Skills Conference each June, this event features more than 6,000 state champions from across the United States competing head-to-head in 115 skilled and leadership competitions.
