Hope Rencher is a certified speech and language pathologist with nearly 15 years of experience as an educator. Having served as both a teacher and administrator, she now brings her formidable skills as a special educator to the CCA leadership team.
Ms. Rencher started out as a K-6 speech language pathologist at Reach For the Stars Learning Center in Brooklyn, a private special education school for students on the spectrum. Within three short years, the New York City School System snatched her up and she was serving as a teacher of students with speech and language disabilities. Outside of the classroom, she helped her fellow educators as a new teacher mentor, clinical fellowship supervisor, student-teacher supervisor, and member of both the curriculum team and school leadership team.
Ms. Rencher’s impressive performance as a teacher led to her recruitment into administration and she was appointed to the position of assistant principal. In that capacity: she led literacy initiatives to improve teacher effectiveness and student outcomes; she established inquiry groups and professional learning programs; and she spearheaded the initiative to institute school-wide phonics instruction using proven literacy programs, including Wilson Foundations, School Based Reading Development Inventories, First Author Curriculum and Readtopia.
“In addition to providing a safe, secure and happy school environment, I want to help my students to understand and care about what they have learned,” Ms. Rencher says of her educational vision. “I want to inspire them to become lifelong learners, and to help them achieve their life goals, whatever they may be.”
Ms. Rencher holds a master’s degree from Hunter College, City University of New York, in the teaching of students with speech, language and hearing impairments. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in communication disorders and linguistics from the State University of New York at New Paltz. Additionally, she is certified by New York State in school building and school district leadership.
“When I moved to Long Island, I wanted to do something to support students and families in my home community,” Ms. Rencher recalls. “As CCA assistant principal, I have the opportunity to provide vital support both in and out of the classroom. I want to empower our students to discover their strengths, to successfully transition out of school and into the word, and to become thriving members of their communities.”
