Compassion in Action: 2024–25 Year in Review
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our staff, students, and partners, Compassion in Action provided meaningful, direct support to hundreds of Nassau BOCES students and families this school year.
Highlights from 2024–25:
- More than 100 winter coats were collected and distributed to students in need.
- Two student-led food pantries provided weekend meals and essentials to local families.
- 27 families received food packages and grocery gift cards ahead of the winter break.
- 28 families received spring break food boxes prepared by students at Iris Wolfson High School.
- 35 families were supported with food deliveries during the President’s Week recess—up from 9 the year prior.
- 150 Thanksgiving meals were delivered with support from the Kiwanis Clubs of the Bellmores and Massapequa.
- Funeral expenses were covered for a grieving Nassau BOCES family.
- Support was extended to employees experiencing catastrophic personal events.
- Nine families received ongoing grocery support throughout the 2024 summer months.
- Student-led hygiene drives provided essential supplies to families in need.
- Partnerships with programs like Special Sweets expanded our work-based learning and delivery efforts.
Each of these efforts reflects our core values—Compassion, Equity, Excellence, Integrity and Respect—and shows that small acts of kindness can lead to big impacts. Thank you to every volunteer, donor and partner for making a difference in the lives of our students and families.

Over 80 students attending Barry Tech, representing 30 school districts from across Long Island, were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) this Spring.
