Denise Gillis, of Smithtown, will be the Agency’s new Director of Business Services, starting February 3, 2025. In this role, she will oversee the Agency’s daily Business Operations.
Most recently, Ms. Gillis served as Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations at the West Babylon Union Free School District (UFSD). She was responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the district’s annual budget as well as managing the district’s financial operations. Prior to joining West Babylon UFSD in 2022, she was the Assistant Business Manager for Jericho UFSD.
She will work directly with the existing Business Services leadership team – Colleen Lipponer, Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, and Dr. Marsha Barnett, Assistant Director. “Denise will be a welcome addition to the Department of Business Services,” said Ms. Lipponer. “She brings extensive knowledge and expertise to the role, and we are excited to have her join the Nassau BOCES team.”
Ms. Gillis spent more than a decade as a Supervisor with the auditing firm R.S. Abrams. In this role, she provided accounting services to districts, including helping them prepare for year-end external audits.
Ms. Gillis earned a Bachelor’s Degree in business management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Master of Business Administration in accounting from Hofstra University. She also has an Advanced Certificate for School District Business Leader from Long Island University.
This position fills a vacancy due to a recent resignation in Business Services.
