A Field Study in Marine Biology (Grades 6-11)
Explore the wonders of the marine environment! Our base of operations will be Caumsett State Park where you’ll explore diverse marine habitats with daily observations and specimen collections. Join us for in-depth research where we will count, measure, and mark Horseshoe Crabs. We will also identify their nesting sites, collect and hatch their eggs and observe their growth. We’ll explore south shore habitats too, with trips to Jones Beach and the Oceanside Marine Nature Center. Activities across the 2 weeks will include canoeing, surf-casting, seining, saltmarsh hike, plankton studies and snorkeling. Link to Hofstra Website for this Program Note: To continue with your focus on the marine world, see Session 4: STEM – Marine Exploration Technology (Building an Underwater ROV)
