Face covering updates: Earlier this week, Governor Cuomo provided updates regarding face coverings. Please see the bullets below regarding how this impacts the agency’s face mask protocols.
- Schools/instructional programs: The State will follow the CDC nationwide guidance for schools, which requires face coverings to be worn indoors. There is no change to the indoor face covering requirement for our instructional programs. You can read these requirements in the Nassau BOCES reopening plan, www.nassauboces.org/reopening.
- Non-instructional buildings: Starting July 1, Nassau BOCES’ non-instructional buildings will no longer require face coverings indoors by those who are fully vaccinated. Even though the agency will not be asking for proof of vaccination, the safety of all staff members remains of paramount importance. Therefore, in the event that concerns are raised about an employee’s vaccination status, the Human Resources Department will follow up as appropriate. We trust in the integrity of our employees as we try to move forward from the pandemic and look forward to your cooperation.
- Outdoors: The Governor, in consultation with the CDC, announced that face coverings are no longer required for students and staff in outdoor settings. We will follow this guidance going forward. However, face-coverings are required for outside events such as end-of-year ceremonies.
Social distancing: All staff and students are still expected to maintain six-feet social distancing in both indoor and outdoor spaces.
