COVID Testing Requirements

  • State and federal mandates require all Nassau BOCES staff to either test weekly or provide proof of vaccination to opt out of testing. Learn more about testing at Nassau BOCES or testing elsewhere.

Testing at Nassau BOCES

  • Testing will be provided onsite at three Nassau BOCES locations weekly – the Rosemary Kennedy Center, Gerald R. Claps Career & Technical Center, and the George Farber Administrative Center. We may adjust the testing locations as we learn more information. Testing will take place outside of work hours. If you arrive at a testing site early, please wait in your car until the scheduled start time. The testing company requires at least 35 people per testing location/time. If at least 35 people do not sign up for a testing location/time, that location/time will be canceled and those signed up will be asked to go to a different testing location/time. Please monitor your emails for changes.

Testing sign-up form

  • All staff who are planning to be tested at one of our facilities must complete a sign-up form so that we know how many people to expect. The deadline to sign-up is 3 p.m. on Friday, October 15.

If this will be your first time testing at a Nassau BOCES location, you also must complete the ATC Healthcare Testing and Screening registration. If you already completed this one-time registration, you do not need to register again.

Testing company

  • ATC Healthcare Testing and Screening is a testing vendor working with many Nassau County school districts. All testers are certified medical practitioners. The vast majority of ATC’s staff are vaccinated. Those who are not are tested weekly for COVID. ATC will administer a PCR version of the test, using a swab of the nasal cavity.

There will be no cost to staff members and consultants if they participate in the ATC testing. The vendor will charge your health insurance provider directly for the cost of the exam. You will need to complete a one-time electronic registration before the first test and bring your insurance ID card to the testing site. If a staff member or consultant is not covered by medical insurance, the cost will be billed to the federal CARES Act.

Can I test elsewhere?

  • Yes. If you chose to be tested elsewhere, please be aware:

    • You will be responsible for any co-pays
    • Testing will need to be completed during non-working hours
    • Your test will need to be taken between Sunday to Wednesday and proof of testing will need to be submitted to the app by Thursday each week
    • Self-test kits cannot be used

Submit proof of vaccination or testing

  • Fully vaccinated staff members who already have opted out of testing do not need to do so again. Those who have not yet completed their vaccine verification may do so by submitting their vaccination card in the Nassau BOCES testing and vaccination app.

All submissions will be verified by Human Resources.

Consequences of failure to comply with testing mandate

  • We previously released an announcement on September 23, 2021, stating that the agency would have no choice but to seek the termination of employees who have not complied with the mandate.

After further review, Nassau BOCES’ administration has determined that the first course of action when an employee fails to comply will be an unpaid leave of absence.
