A. Information that is Collected and Stored Automatically

If you visit our site to read or download information, we collect and store in a log the following information about your visit:

  1. the name of the Internet domain (e.g., xyz.com) and the IP address (a unique number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet) from which you access our site;
  2. the type of browser and operating system you use to access our site;
  3. the date and time you access our site;
  4. the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site, also known as the “referrer”; and
  5. the pages you visit and the information you request.

This information is collected in a log and used primarily for website-traffic analysis and to ensure the site's compatibility with the largest possible number of personal computer systems. Nassau BOCES uses software programs to compile summary statistics, which may be used for such purposes as assessing what information is of most and least interest, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas. We will only disclose this information, which may identify you, when required to do so by law (e.g., in response to a court order or subpoena). We are also required to disclose this information in response to a law enforcement agency's request. All such data files and electronic storage areas are and shall remain the property of Nassau BOCES.

B. If You Send Us Personal Information

If you choose to provide us with personal information, such as by sending an e-mail or by filling out a form and submitting it through our website, we will use that information to respond to your message or to fulfill the stated purpose of the communication. Remember that e-mail is not necessarily secure against interception. If your communication is sensitive or includes personal information, you may choose to send it by postal mail instead.

In limited circumstances, we may share the information you give us with another organization if your inquiry relates to that organization. In other limited circumstances, we may be required by law to disclose information you submit.

C. Cookies

Cookies are small bits of text that are either used for the duration of a session ("session cookies"), or saved on a user's hard drive in order to identify that user, or information about that user, the next time the user logs on to a website ("persistent cookies"). The Nassau BOCES website may use session and/or persistent cookies to collect information, but only about your visit to our site.

D. Children's Online Privacy

Nassau BOCES does not knowingly collect, use, or maintain any information through the Nassau BOCES website from children who are under the age of 18. If Nassau BOCES determines that a child under the age of 18 has provided information through the Nassau BOCES website, it will only use this information to notify parents that this information was received.
