McKinney Vento

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act ensures educational stability, access, and support for children and youth experiencing homelessness by removing barriers to enrollment, attendance, and success in school. This federal law protects the rights of students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including those living in temporary, doubled up, or transitional housing situations. As McKinney-Vento Liaisons, your role is essential in identifying eligible students, coordinating services, advocating for families, and ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements.

This webpage is designed to serve as a centralized resource hub for McKinney-Vento Liaisons across Nassau County. Here you will find guidance, tools, forms, professional learning resources, updates, and best practices to support your work and strengthen collaboration across districts. Our shared goal is to ensure that every student experiencing homelessness is welcomed, supported, and given equitable access to educational opportunities.
