Nassau BOCES Mental Health Consortium (MHC)
Formed in 2019 based on district requests, the Nassau BOCES Mental Health Consortium (MHC) united to collectively support the implementation of NYSED's Mental Health Education requirements. Now expanded, MHC embraces all 56 districts in Nassau County, alongside several districts in Suffolk and Westchester counties.
We are excited to be able to offer membership to any school district in NYS as of July 1, 2023. 2026-2027 MHC District Membership Fee $3,250
The Mental Health Consortium offers 14+ collegial work groups/circles that meet virtually monthly, including, elementary counselor circle, school psychologist collaborative clinical discussion group, BCBA circle, School Avoidance Team, crisis team roundtable exercises and more. These groups are offered to school district staff for no cost. These groups are moderated by experts in their fields. The district MHC membership covers the cost of these groups.
The MHC schedule includes monthly workshops, updates, presentations, and trainings. These sessions, often available virtually, connect participating districts with experts and cover diverse topics such as mental and behavioral health, clinical updates, new research, and NYSED information dissemination. Additionally, annual training initiatives are offered in a cohort format, enabling district teams to receive training on evidence-based programs. Notably, Nassau BOCES is proud to be a CASEL Fellows Partner.

Growing Your Own: Building the Future Behavioral Health Workforce

Register for Growing Your Own: Building the Future Behavioral Health Workforce
School districts across New York are facing unprecedented shortages of school counselors, school psychologists, school social workers and other behavioral health professionals. Join the New York State Mental Health Alliance (NYSMHA) to learn how districts are addressing these challenges through the Grow Your Own (GYO) Behavioral Health Pathway, an innovative workforce development model that prepares students for careers in school-based mental health while creating sustainable local talent pipelines. Participants will learn how to implement a four-course, dual-credit pathway, build partnerships with institutions of higher education, align the program with the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness, leverage BOCES and Early College funding opportunities, and develop long-term workforce strategies that strengthen recruitment and retention. Additional NYSMHA initiatives supporting school mental health workforce development, professional learning and district capacity building will also be highlighted.
