Barry Tech student accepted to three military academies

Brittany Dowling will be attending the United States Naval Academy after her high school graduation.

Brittany Dowling, an Oceanside High School senior and Aviation Operations student at Nassau BOCES Barry Tech, applied to three United States Service Academies and was accepted to all of them. Admission to the nation's military service academies, United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy and the United States Coast Guard Academy, is highly scrutinized.

“In order to gain acceptance into any single academy, a student must undergo a highly competitive and rigorous process. Brittany Dowling succeeded in this process not only once, but three times,” said Aviation Teacher John Carey.   “She applied to three military academies and was accepted into all three; this is a truly extraordinary accomplishment.”

Brittany has committed to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. When she graduates, she will be a commissioned Naval Officer. Her ultimate goal is to become a pilot in the United States Navy.

Serving in the United States Navy is a long standing tradition in Brittany's family; her grandfather served in WWII, her uncle in Vietnam, and she has a cousin who is currently in the Navy.
