Nassau BOCES appoints new Executive Director

smiling woman Nassau BOCES has appointed Patricia Schwetz as its new Executive Director for Special Education. She brings more than 23 years of experience in education, serving most recently as Assistant Director, Nassau BOCES Department of Special Education.

In her new role, Ms. Schwetz will oversee the nine Nassau BOCES Special Education schools along with the district programs and college partnerships.

 “Ms. Schwetz is highly regarded both within Nassau BOCES as well as the 56 component districts we serve. She brings with her a broad range of knowledge in special education and a passion for staying in the forefront of this ever-evolving field. ” said Eric B. Schultz, President of the Nassau BOCES Board.

 “It is with a sense of excitement that I begin my new position. To partner with the local school districts of Nassau County, as we serve the needs of diverse learners, is a great privilege. I am thrilled to be leading a department of dynamic administrators and staff, who I am sure will continue to have a lasting impact on our students. I look forward to growing our innovative programs to further meet the needs of our educational community,” said Ms. Schwetz

Ms. Schwetz began her career as a Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped for the New York City Board of Education as well as later for the Meadow Elementary School in Baldwin. She was a Bilingual Speech Pathologist for Nassau BOCES Language Programs & Assessment Services and then worked for the Regional Special Education Technical Assistance Support Center as a Program Coordinator. She quickly advanced to a Supervisor and then Assistant Director for Nassau BOCES Special Education Department before being named Executive Director.

Ms. Schwetz began her career as a bilingual Speech Language Pathologist after receiving her bachelors in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, Speech and Hearing Science and her master’s in Speech Language Pathology from Brooklyn College. She has taken coursework in Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas and holds an Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from Brooklyn College.
