Artists come home to Long Island High School for the Arts to perform at Annual Scholarship Gala
Graduates of Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts (LIHSA) have performed on countless stages across the country and around the world, but the stage at LIHSA will always be their true home. Dozens of alumni are returning home on Friday, May 17, 2019 for the LIHSA Scholarship Gala, a memorable evening of spectacular performances to raise money for the LIHSA scholarship fund.
The annual event is an opportunity for alumni to perform together and to share a variety of talents that they honed while attending LIHSA, including dancing, singing and acting. Visual artists will have their work on display and for sale in the school’s art gallery. LIHSA is celebrating 45 years of arts excellence and the gala promises to feature an eclectic range of performances, from opera and guitar solos to comedy sketches and modern dance. Alumni are always excited to participate and give back to a school that helped shape who they are today. This year, attendees have an opportunity to win exciting prizes including tickets to Good Morning America,Saturday Night Live and STOMP.
"I will always support the Long Island High School for the Arts,” said internationally renowned tenor and LIHSA graduate Vincent Ricciardi. “It’s necessary for kids like me that need a place to perform and learn a craft that they love.” Mr. Ricciardi, a member of the LIHSA Theatre Department Class of 2000, is a concert artist who specializes in opera, jazz, Broadway musicals, and opera-pop crossover favorites.
“Just being invited to share the stage with all of these talented artists who also went here is incredible,” said Sarah Sixt, an actor, writer, comedian and 2008 LIHSA theatre alum. “This place has such a warm and inviting energy. Why not give back to something that gave so much to me?”
