Classrooms and the gym at CPHS were converted to meet the needs of the diverse and medically fragile students who live with a range of disabilities. The 156 students in the extended-year program range in age from 3 years old and up to age 21.

The move to CPHS ties in with this summer’s theme of staycation, explained school psychologist Dawn Covino. Students’ curriculum was focused on learning about the natural world and activities on Long Island.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer our students the opportunity to continue their education while we are enhancing their school environment,” said Patricia Schwetz, Executive Director, Department of Special Education.

Students will be back at the Carman Road School in Massapequa Park for the start of the new school year on Sept. 5.
