East Northport educator joins administrative team at Long Island’s premiere public high school for the arts
Professionally trained artist and educator Erica Giglio of East Northport has joined the administration of Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts as a program coordinator. Ms. Giglio will put her considerable skill and experience to use in guiding LIHSA’s talented student body.
After completing her student teaching at New York City’s legendary LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, Ms. Giglio went on to an illustrious career as a performing arts educator. Her early experiences include associate director of youth theatre for the renowned off-Broadway MCC Theater, as well as workshop facilitator for the Nassau Music Educators Association.
From there, she went on to serve as an educator at Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School; theatre teacher, administration intern and building arts liaison for The Queens School of Inquiry; facilitator of the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Arts and Special Projects; and drama teacher at Long Island’s USDAN Summer Camp for the Arts.
Ms. Giglio holds a bachelor’s degree in musical theatre performance from the University at Buffalo and a master’s degree in educational theatre from New York University. She holds New York State certification in school district leadership, school building leadership and professional theatre. She has served as a regional judge for the New York State Alliance for Arts Education and is a recipient of the Richard Hirsh Memorial Award for Exceptional Students in the Arts.
“I am eager to help students develop their skill and to experience as many facets of the arts as possible,” Ms. Giglio said of her position as program coordinator. “LIHSA affords its students so many wonderful opportunities, such as working with master artists, and engaging in work-based learning. It’s my job to ensure that all of these experiences, both on and off campus, align with LIHSA’s curriculum and students’ post secondary aspirations.”
