It’s time to register for Adult Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs through Nassau BOCES. This winter our Adult CTE program is opening new avenues into the job market, while providing unique opportunities for a career change. From job training in entry-level positions, to coursework designed to advance current skills, Adult CTE is a comprehensive program with something for everyone.

Classes take place in the state-of-the art Joseph M. Barry Career and Technical Education Center at 1196 Prospect Avenue in Westbury, where classrooms mimic real work settings.

“We are very excited about the continued improvements to our programs,” said Michele Cohen, Principal, Nassau BOCES Adult Education. “Our coursework is designed to meet the ever-changing needs of employers, while preparing students to enter the increasingly competitive workforce on Long Island and in the greater New York metro area.”

The programs feature vital training in today’s top industries. Courses are available in a variety of fields including Automotive, Culinary Arts, Health Occupations, Cosmetology, Construction Trades and Animal Services. Plus, we now offer a leading-edge Employment Center, staffed by a team of professionals who are dedicated to helping students obtain and maintain a meaningful career. The center offers one-on-one support and expert guidance in resume writing, interview techniques and completing a job application, among other employability skills. Classes incorporate a variety of professional skills including realistic workplace expectations and customer service, and feature trade tips from industry experts.

“I used to tinker a little in the back yard. Now, I’ve turned that passion into a good paying, stable job, and I’m not saddled with big student loans,” says Saj Kayou, Auto Mechanic, Jeep Westbury and Nassau BOCES Adult CTE Alumnus.

One of the hottest careers in healthcare today is Home Health Aide. We’re offering a specialized program for people interested in a healthcare career where they help other people on a daily basis and learn hands-on skills to help provide care for older adults and people with disabilities.

Adult Education’s newly evolving Personal Interest programs are designed for individuals who want to explore a potential career path or revisit a previous career, as well as those interested in pursuing a new hobby. These courses provide an ideal opportunity for anyone curious enough to explore employment possibilities but not yet ready to make a commitment.

“I discovered in my own life that, once I found my passion, the world of work became fun,” Principal Cohen observed. “I believe that it is in everyone’s best interest to find what they are truly passionate about, and then use that as a driver for building their career.”
