COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation updates

The Agency will implement the following changes regarding quarantines and isolations from the New York State Department of Health

Quarantine (for individuals who are exposed to someone with COVID-19)

Staff/Students who are fully vaccinated*, who have been exposed to an individual with COVID-19, may continue to attend work/school, regardless of booster status, while quarantining outside of work/school.

Staff/Students who are not fully vaccinated, who came into close contact (being within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes within a 24-hour period) with someone with COVID-19 must quarantine for at least 5 days after their last close contact. The day of contact is Day zero. Count the next day as Day 1. Individuals must wear a well-fitting mask for an additional 5 days while around others. Individuals who cannot wear a mask must quarantine for 10 days.

Isolation (for individuals who test positive for COVID-19)

Regardless of vaccination status, individuals who test positive must isolate for 5 days. If symptoms persist beyond 5 days, a note from a medical provider will be needed to extend the isolation. Otherwise, they may attend work/school after the 5-day isolation. The first day of symptoms is Day zero. If asymptomatic, Day zero is the day of the test. Count the next day as Day 1.

Staff/Students who are currently quarantined/isolated for 10-days, and they are asymptomatic, their quarantine/isolation can be reduced to 5 days. Individuals must wear a well-fitting mask for an additional 5 days while around others. Individuals who cannot wear a mask must isolate for 10 days.

*Fully vaccinated is defined as two weeks after the receipt of either two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of Johnson and Johnson vaccine or full course of any other recognized vaccine.
