Morning COVID screening ends January 14

Nassau BOCES will discontinue the morning COVID screening process on Friday, January 14. Due to the continued modifications of New York State and local health department COVID protocols, it is no longer possible to keep the information in the screening application updated in a timely fashion.

We want everyone to feel healthy and safe when they come to school. The screening application depended on an honor system and that expectation will continue. Children who are not feeling well should not come to school. Students who display symptoms while at school will be sent home. Please follow the guidelines below regarding returning from isolation/quarantine.

Quarantine (for individuals who are exposed to someone with COVID-19)

Students who are fully vaccinated*, who have been exposed to an individual with COVID-19, may continue to attend school, regardless of booster status, while quarantining outside of school.

Students who are not fully vaccinated, who came into close contact (being within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes within a 24-hour period) with someone with COVID-19 should quarantine for at least 5 days after their last close contact. The day of contact is Day zero. Count the next day as Day 1.  Students must wear a well-fitting mask for an additional 5 days while around others.  Students who cannot wear a mask must quarantine for 10 days.

Isolation (for individuals who test positive for COVID-19)

Regardless of vaccination status, individuals who test positive must isolate for 5 days. If symptoms persist beyond 5 days, a note from a medical provider will be needed to extend the isolation. Otherwise, they may attend school after the 5-day isolation. The first day of symptoms is Day zero. If asymptomatic, Day zero is the day of the test. Count the next day as Day 1.

If your child is currently quarantined/isolated for 10-days, and they are asymptomatic, their quarantine/isolation can be reduced to 5 days. Students must wear a well-fitting mask for an additional 5 days while around others.  Students who cannot wear a mask must isolate for 10 days.

*Fully vaccinated is defined as two weeks after the receipt of either two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of Johnson and Johnson vaccine or full course of any other recognized vaccine.
