Graduates come home to Long Island High School for the Arts to perform at Annual Scholarship Gala

Graduates of Long Island High School for the Arts (LIHSA) have performed on countless stages across the country and around the world, but the stage at LIHSA will always be their true home. Dozens of alumni are returning home on Friday, May 12, 2023, for the LIHSA Scholarship Gala, a memorable evening of spectacular performances to raise money for the LIHSA scholarship fund. The fund is used to support gifted and talented seniors wishing to pursue post-secondary education in the arts.
The annual event is an opportunity for alumni to perform together and to share a variety of talents that they honed while attending LIHSA, including dancing, singing and acting. Visual artists will have their work on display and for sale in the school’s art gallery. LIHSA is celebrating 50 years of arts excellence and the gala promises to feature an eclectic range of performances, from vocal ensembles to show-stopping theatrical scenes and dance performances by Momix. Alumni are always excited to participate and give back to a school that helped shape who they are today. Attendees have an opportunity to win exciting prizes including gift certificates to local restaurants, airline vouchers, show tickets including to Paramount Theatre in Huntington and American Ballet Theatre, and many more.
LIHSA is delighted to honor a special couple at the gala, long-time supporters of the school, Michelle and Jerome Vivona. The talented power couple have over ten Broadway shows on their resumes including Kiss Me, Kate, How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Guys and Dolls, Curtains, Anything Goes, Sweet Charity and Seussical, the Musical. They have toured all over the world, performed on television and Ms. Vivona was a Radio City Rockette.
Mr. Vivona is a co-founder of Broadway Supports LIHSA. It’s a wonderful, one-night-only event featuring a cast of Broadway stars that volunteer their time to come to LIHSA for the performance of a lifetime. The special event was held several times over the years, raising money for the school and connecting students with Broadway actors for master classes, workshops, and tech rehearsals. This unique opportunity for students will be back in Fall 2023!
“We are thrilled to honor a couple that has given so much of their time and talents to the students at Long Island High School for the Arts,” said LIHSA Principal Laura Vega. “This evening is a celebration of all they have shared with the LIHSA community.”
